SomArts operates the South of Market Cultural Center under contract to The San Francisco Art Commission. We are one of four Community Cultural Centers under the supervision of the Community Arts and Education Program with funding from The Hotel Tax Fund.

Since 1979 SomArts has been providing low-cost rental space and equipment to communities and arts groups. SomArts’ large size, its flexible performance spaces and its spacious art galleries afford local artists the opportunity to artistically exploit the venue’s multidisciplinary possibilities.

SomArts’ technical services branch offers stage, sound, lighting and consultation for major street fairs and festivals in San Francisco. Serving all the neighborhoods, cultural groups, art organizations and individual artists who bring their work to multicultural audiences throughout San Francisco.

The Mural Resource Center is instrumental in bringing artists, the community and City organizations together on mural projects that enrich the San Francisco landscape.

SomArts’ classes provide a year-round schedule of programs in the arts and in self improvement .

SomArts acts as fiscal sponsor for individuals and organizations who are seeking funding for arts projects.
