Eat, drink, be merry. Cause right now, not tomorrow…you’re seeing Gallery Diet. Director Nina Johnson is one of the precious few pioneers in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District (and Miami’s contemporary art environment as a whole), opening her cutting-edge program in 2007. Showcasing emerging, international talent in multiple disciplines (painting, installation, film and sculpture), Gallery Diet could be described as the ‘new institution’ gallery model in Miami; with highly conceptual, intellectually-driven exhibition concepts displaying intense curatorial ambition tempered with a mature, disciplined approach to the ‘white cube’ aesthetic. The select program has shown Christy Gast (most recently exhibited at the De La Cruz Collection in Miami with her video installation ‘Herbert Hoover Dyke’ and the Miami Art Museum’s most recent show, ‘The Wilderness’), Gean Moreno (artist and curator whose last project ‘Drawn and Quartered’ appeared in the gallery space World Class Boxing, of prominent collectors Debra and Dennis Scholl), and Abby Manock (shown at Deitch’s Parade with ‘Soundtrack Wars: Grease and Annie’).
“The gallery presents and produces work by emerging and contemporary artists from around the world. We strive to present works that are relevant in an international context while still remaining relevant to the local audience. I feel that the gallery has enhanced Miami’s arts community by presenting challenging exhibitions that spark dialogue.”
