Cyprien Gaillard was born in Paris in 1980 and currently lives and works between Paris and Berlin. He has had numerous solo exhibitions, including those at the MCA 13, Malta Contemporary Art, Valletta, Malta; Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland; Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH; Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel, Germany; MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge, MA; Proyectos Monclova, Mexico City; Museo de Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, Spain; L’Atelier du Jeu de Paume, Paris; and the Hayward Gallery, London. His work has also been included in several important international group exhibitions, including the Les promesses du passé, Centre Pompidou, Paris (2010); Perpetual Battles, Baibakov Art Projects, Moscow (2010); 40 Lives Of One Space, Special Project 3 Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art, Moscow (2009); The Generational : Younger Than Jesus, New Museum, New York (2009); and 5th Berlin Biennial, Germany (2008). Upcoming solo exhibitions of his work will be presented at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC and Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt, Germany, and he will be included in The Original Copy: Photography of Sculpture, 1839 to Today at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (August 2010), the Eighth Gwanju Biennial (September 2010) and Post Monument, XIV Biennale Internazionale di Scultura di Carrara, Italy. In 2010 he was nominated for Prix Marcel Duchamp and in 2009 he was an artist-in-residence with DAAD in Berlin. His book Geographical Analogies will be published by JRP Ringier in fall 2010.
