Using Portfolio Sites

Custom domains allow for you to setup a URL like “www.yourname.com”. This can sometimes be a complicated and Artlog may not be able to guide you through this process. Below we outline the basic steps necessary.

If you do not already own your desired domain name, you can purchase available names from places like GoDaddy, Register or pairNIC. Typically, domain names cost $10-$30.

  • Follow the instructions from your registar (ie. GoDaddy) to point the domain’s A-record (IP address) to 64.22.127.178 (see below for more help)
  • Check back in 2-3 days whether you see Artlog.com when you visit your domain.
  • Log into your account at Artlog.com and in your portfolio’s dashboard, click on “Account” and under Custom Domain name enter your URL (ie “yourname.com”)
  • You are now all set with a custom domain name for your Artlog Portfolio Website. Note that you are responsible for renewing your domain name with your registrar. Artlog is not responsible for your custom domain name’s registration.

Help Pointing Domain Address:

  • Login to GoDaddy
  • Click on “My Domains” and click on your selected domain (ie “yourname.com”)
  • Click on Total DNS Control and MX Records
  • Click on Add New A Record
  • Enter “yourname.com” in host
  • Enter 64.22.127.178 in “Points to IP Address”

Artists can show their work by adding their works to their user profiles. Additionally, can build an independent professional artist portfolio site. The portfolio sites have a different domain address (ie: http://yourname.artlogsites.com) and can be accessed like any other public website on the world wide web. Your Portfolio will also be accessible through your Artlog user profile and through the Browse Portfolios function.

Google Analytics is a free and feature-rich site statistics utility. The first step is to visit http://www.google.com/analytics/ and sign up for an account. Once you have created an account and a website profile to monitor, have a look at the tracking code Google provides for your website.

It should look something like this:

<script type="text/javascript">
var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://ssl." : "http://www.");
document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "google-analytics.com/ga.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E"));
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-1234567-1");
pageTracker._trackPageview();
</script>

Now, you should copy the tracking identifier code. It’s on the sixth line above and begins with ‘UA.’ In this case, you’d copy ‘UA-1234567-1.’ Then head back to your Artlog Portfolio Site’s control panel (through your dashboard). Click on the ‘account’ tab. Paste the tracking identifier code in the field labeled ‘Google analytics code’ and save your changes.

You should be all set.
