Renowned photographer Daido Moriyama (Japan, b. 1938) first came to prominence in the 1960s with his gritty depictions of Japanese urban life. His highly innovative and intensely personal photographic approach often incorporates high contrast, graininess, and tilted vantages: formal qualities that echo the energy or enigma of the photographer’s subjects.

Fracture: Daido Moriyama highlights the raw power of Moriyama’s work through a selection of photographic prints and books spanning four decades, as well as an installation of more recent color prints. This is the first exhibition of Moriyama’s work at a Los Angeles museum.
