Clover’s Fine Art Gallery presents “Transplanted,” an exhibition by five artists who launched their art careers in their native homelands before continuing in the U.S. The exhibition runs from November 9, 2011 to January 8, 2012.
Roger Beckles – Barbados-born, realist painter, Roger Beckles, showcases his love affair with oil painting in his rich, colorful and vibrant art works. Beckles’ passion led him to study the old masters. He is influenced by Jean Simeon Chardin and Jean Auguste Dominique-Ingres, 18th century French artists. Beckles received his formal education at the School of Visual Arts.
Catriona Herd – Brooklyn-based Scottish artist, Catriona Herd, paints landscapes from outdoor sketches and also paints the figure. Herd exhibits in New York and Scotland and recently won a scholarship to paint at the Anderson Ranch Arts Centre in Aspen, Colorado and won a Jean Gates Award for her painting “Copper Tree, Evora, Portugal.”
Robert V. Reid – This Trinidadian artist studied at the Art Students League in New York and at the School of Visual Arts. Reid’s works include life drawing, as well as figure painting and water color. His accomplishments include a Jean Gates Award from The Art Students League of New York, 2008; Winner in Watercolors and Winner in Drawing; First Prize – Fulton Art Fair 1988.
Sophie Sejourne –Abstract expressionist French-born painter, Sophie Sejourne, is inspired by her homeland, La Rochelle, France. Sejourne studied at l’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Poitiers, France and later at the Art Students League in New York City. Sejourne’s work is concerned with the reinvigoration of modernist collage practice.
Alison Wells – Trinidadian abstract painter, Wells depicts the cultural diversity of her two worlds in her work. Her color techniques and layered surfaces represent the experience of environmental change. Wells received a MFA from the University of Massachusetts and a BFA from the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica. In 2010, Wells was chosen to represent Trinidad in the World Exposition in Shanghai, and this year received a grant from the Brookline Commission for the Arts in Massachusetts.
