Elisa Contemporary Art is pleased to present Catching Waves, a two-person exhibit of the art of surfing by Hawaii Artists and Surfers, Pete Cabrinha and Mike Field.
The exhibit will be held in a public art space at New York’s, Saint Peter’s Church, Living Room Gallery (lower level). This public art space is located at 619 Lexington Avenue (entrance on 54th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues).
The exhibit will open on December 6, 2010 and run through January 10, 2011.
You’ll be swept away by the strong, clean lines and bold intense use of color throughout Mike Field’s artwork. In his fine art prints, people – surfers, paddlers and swimmers – share the spotlight along with the island landscape and vegetation. The simplicity of the artwork yearns to remind the viewer how simple life can be if you let it.
The mixed media paintings of Pete Cabrinha blend his deep exploration of modern photography – both below the water’s surface and above it – with a range of other medium and techniques. His photographs often possess an otherworldly quality. When they are combined and juxtaposed against modern color schemes and text, it results in a unique mix of “days gone by” with a
contemporary edge.
As in all areas of his life, Pete continues to push the boundaries. Pete surfed a 70’ wave in 2004 to win the BILLABONG XXL AWARD. His artwork is equally inspiring!
A portion of all gallery sales are donated to charities helping underserved children heal through art. We currently support Free Arts NYC, Arts to Grow and Creative Arts Workshops for Kids.
