Swashbuckler Sashay explores the typography that marks our buildings,
sidewalks and shelves. Participants will investigate the methods and tools
used to create typefaces and the messages those types connote. The objects
of Samarskaya¹s exploration will include street signs and architectural
lettering: the embossed, the painted, the lit and the engraved. Participants
will look at the weathered and faded remnants of crafted signs and
palimpsests, and tune into the dialogues that have emerged over time given
the superimpositions of signs.
