Dance: Sun Son Theater‘ s name comes from the Chinese words for ‘body’ and ’sound’ — two main areas of artistic focus for the group. Inspired by the artistry of ancient music and dance forms, each member is a percussionist, singer, and dancer. They will present “Into The Flood,” a modern fable that combines elements of drama, body movements, singing, musical instruments, masks, and puppets to express our deep connection with the mother Earth.
Music: Formosa Chamber Music Society is founded in NYC by young professional musicians from Taiwan who devote themselves into promoting and performing chamber music. They provide music from western classical to contemporary repertoire, and also share some of the most classic Taiwanese folk tunes in their own arrangement of those pieces.
Film: OrzBoyz!/囧男孩 /Jiong nan hai (Ya-che Yang, 2008, 104 min, Mandarin with English ST) “Orz” is an Asian emoticon/meme representing a kneeling figure, signifying rejection and despair. A perfect symbol for the two Taiwanese boys in this film nicknamed Liar Number. #1 and #2 by their exasperated teacher. With rocky home lives, they rely on their imaginations (and a little mischief) as they make the journey to adulthood. Deflty melding live action with animated scenes, the film captures the vivid fantasy lives of its two protagonists.
