“Create and be recognized” commanded a sign Eugene Von Bruenchenhein (1910–1983) hung in his basement studio, and the artist attempted just that. His Milwaukee home was transformed over four decades by an outpouring of artistic expression—photography, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and poetry. Most of the approximately 60 works on view in this exhibition are selected from the museum’s collection.
