Axelle Fine Arts Galerie is pleased to announce the opening reception of a solo exhibition of new works by Philippe Vasseur.
Vasseur’s representation of the world greatly reflects his years of study. The stories in his paintings may change from day to day, though some viewers sense that a greater story has been in place from the beginning. With his classical training serving as a framework, Vasseur opens a world of possibilities in each canvas. His exploration of time and the great condition of human existence, leaves viewers enthralled in the beauty of what is, all at once, ambiguous and specific. A Vasseur building or landscape obeys rules and real perspective, yet, at the same time, defies nature in its boldness.
Philippe Vasseur was born in November 1954 in Lisieux, France. Vasseur attended the London Academy of Drawing and the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied drawing and art history. He later lived in the Cité des Arts, an artist community, where his oils were prominently displayed in a significant number of shows and consequently received great attention. Woodworking, his family’s craft, was his earliest inspiration; he realized early on that his ambitions would one day be manifested through work he would create with his own hands.
The show will be on display from June 3rd through July 3rd, 2010 at Axelle Fine Arts Galerie, 535 West 25th Street, NY, NY. The reception will be on June 3rd from 6pm to 9pm by RSVP only. Vasseur will attend the opening reception. Please make reservations by calling 212-226-2262. For more information on Axelle Fine Arts Galerie and their artists, please visit www.axelle.com
