This exhibition will show how the Romantic Movement in art and literature influenced styles of landscape design in England, France, Germany, and America. The Morgan has drawn on its wide-ranging collections to document this important episode in cultural history with books and prints containing splendid views of European gardens, many in color and large formats. Also on display will be master drawings, literary manuscripts, and first editions of works by Emerson, Wordsworth, Goethe, and other authors whose writings helped to form the Romantic sensibility and to redefine the relationship between man and nature.
