The first annual fundraiser from the NYCLU Young Professionals will raise money for the NYCLU’s various initiatives as well as raise awareness amongst young professionals in New York. As part of the fundraising effort, up-and-coming local artists have been commissioned to create artwork inspired by the various issues the NYCLU is currently working on including marriage fairness, reproductive rights, art censorship, racial profiling, and privacy issues. The artwork will be judged by a panel of celebrity fashion designers and the winning piece will be translated into a fashionable wearable (such as a t-shirt or a tote bag) and sold to raise money for the NYCLU. The artists in competition are Nick Atlas, Phillip Kim, Mary Button, Marlon Krieger, Jared Rodriguez, Christine Goncharuk, and Emanuele Simonelli. All artwork will be auctioned off. In addition to the live art auction, there will be a raffle and silent auction with prizes ranging from weekend getaways to furniture to tickets to Broadway shows. Music for the event will be provided by DJ from indie pop band Au Revoir Simone.
