Lund’s ongoing exploration of proto forms – especially figurative and linguistic – continues in his new collection of paintings and sculptural works entitled “ProtoLogos.” Applying abstract strategies to the presentation of human forms (typically female), the artist conflates our notions of art history with perceptions of basest icons. Mixing found and (usually) adhesive materials (plaster, fiberglass cloth, resin) Lund conjures objects in interstitial moments, trapped between form and function, dissolving yet static. Modular, geometric bases interact with the forms suggesting the style of classical presentation, and allow the viewer to complete the picture of each ambiguous figure/head. Found materials suggest Primitivist geometries and early Pop Art.
