This Thursday night, for one night only, Macho Mel Shimkovitz and friends will present a live drawing entitled BLUE BELLS.
According to Shimkovitz, BLUE BELLS is the materialization of a place where Gay Marriage fears of regular Americans overlap with some Gay Marriage fears of her own. “I’m tormented by the thought,” she says, “that if I ever do win the right to get married, it will be a tacky event. And I’ll be forced to wear a dress.”
The artist’s hope is that the American majority can agree that marriage is a nightmare, even if they can’t agree that the American minority deserves the right to that nightmare. Which leaves all of us to wonder: What exactly are The Gays† holding their breath for?
Refreshments and cake will be served and there will be family-style entertainment
†The term “The Gays”, for the purpose of this discussion, also include, but are not limited to, polygamists, seriously-serious animal lovers, and kissin’ cousins
