Hartigan’s remarkable career began as part of the American Abstract Expressionist movement. With her first solo exhibition in New York in 1951, she won early fame when her work was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan and the Whitney, among many others. Guild Hall’s show will include some of these seminal Abstract Expressionist paintings, as well as later work, which established her as a precursor to the Pop Art movement.
