Mixed Greens: Artists Choose Artists on the East End celebrates the region’s long tradition of artistic creativity and innovation, and reflects the Parrish Art Museum’s mission of fostering a sense of community consistent with the area’s unique heritage. It is precisely this history that inspired the Parrish to engage in a new kind of juried exhibition—one that would promote engagement among artists and provide new access to the wealth of activity that occurs every day behind the closed doors of the artists’ studios.
The Museum solicited online entries from local artists and received more than 260 responses. Nine prominent East End artists were invited to review the submissions, make studio visits, and ultimately choose a single finalist each. By exhibiting the work of jurors and selected artists together, Mixed Greens provides a special opportunity to showcase eighteen terrific artists in all career stages. We hope that this invitational exhibition will evolve over time and continue to be a focal point for area artists. To that end, all artists who entered were invited to exhibit their work in our Mixed Greens Online Gallery where their images and contact information can be viewed.
