Kauffman’s work can be seen as a singularly Crafted semiotics, the study of signs and symbols, and of how meaning is constructed and understood. Heretofore, the human body was considered an embodiment of signs, but with virtual realities, artificial life, and simulated bodies, the disembodiment of these signs is garnering prominence within the field.
