On June 6th, the iconic CHANEL jacket will be feted in New York with an exhibition to celebrate Karl Lagerfeld’s forthcoming book The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL’s classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld*- a unique and artistic event that underlines CHANEL’s values of creativity and modernity.
From Tokyo to New York the timeless CHANEL jacket is the protagonist in an exhibition featuring Karl Lagerfeld’s photographs of celebrities and personalities wearing this iconic item of clothing.
The book illustrates CHANEL’s little black jacket as worn by a range of personalities who have adapted it to their own inimitable style. Worn as a headdress by American actress Sarah Jessica Parker, wrapped around model Joan Smalls or slipped on by Yoko Ono, this garment can be adapted to suit a plethora of different characters.
For many years, CHANEL has had a close relationship with these celebrities; all of whom embody the values and the iconic style of the House.
The public will discover through 113 photographs, the modernity and timelessness of CHANEL’s jacket which is constantly revisited by Karl Lagerfeld.
Running simultaneously with the exhibition, window displays in CHANEL boutiques will present a selection of jackets from the Paris-Bombay Métiers d’art collection, whilst in-store the iconic jacket will have pride of place.
The exhibition will be open to the public from June 8th to June 15th 2012.
