Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a two-person exhibition featuring new work by Cara Barer and Pang-Chieh Hsu, with an opening reception held on Wednesday, April 4 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.

Cara Barer began her book project over six years ago. In this new body of work, Barer is concerned with the bombardment of data through ever expanding forms of media. Barer photographs this information overload in stacks of sensationalized headlines and bundles of newspapers as she questions our ability to filter through the information that relentlessly confronts us everyday.

Pang-Chieh Hsu paints images of paper money using the currency of his native culture. In his paintings, Hsu experiments with the abstract qualities of money. The color, pattern, and texture are original to the object, but painted out of context the money is no longer functional. Instead it stands to remind us that although we are functional in society, we have a unique essence within.

Andrea Schwartz Gallery was established in 1982 and is located in the South of Market district. ASG exhibits contemporary work of emerging to mid-career artists from the Bay Area and across the country. ASG is a member of SFADA, www.sfada.com.
