The Spring/Break art show has taken over an old Catholic school and converted the space from the bathrooms to the classrooms into an alternative arena for creative events. For this show they enlisted 23 curators and more than 50 artists from Eve Sussman’s film installation curated by Maureen Sullivan to Joe Jagos’ one-way mirror curated by Tom Weinrich. FOLLOWED BY: William Powhida Presents Art and Politics
Join art critics Christian Viveros-Faune, Martha Schwendener, and R.C. Baker (and any other invited guests) for an open public discussion on arts and politics through the frame of OWS at Spring/Break. The village voice critics began the discussion in a recent article in the Voice that artist William Powhida invited them to continue at Spring/Break. Several members of the OWS working group Arts and Labor will be in attendance for the discussion in an individual capacity. A&L will also be making literature available to the audience following the discussion. This is an autonomous action organized by William Powhida who requested A&L participation at a weekly working group meeting at 60 Wall St.
Sat, March 10 7-8pm: ArtLiars Live Performance created by Nic Rad and Josh Lukaris
The ArtLiars will put satire in a headlock and try to squeeze it to death, live, at an art fair. It’s sort of like if Theodor Adorno collaborated with Carrot Top just for ‘lolz.’ As a casual viewer you might end up on stage in a great debate with the muses, the artists, the dealers, maybe the art itself. Watch the ArtLiars reverse engineer reasons that any aggressive eccentric can find themselves in the middle of calamity, or a retrospective- whatever comes. The performance also showcases objects made by Nic Rad, Ashley Zelenskie, Sarah McDougald Kohn , and Andrea Mary Marshall.
