In her artistic work, Marie Letkowski (*1984, Halle/Saale) investigates the painting as an object with its material and texture, the relation between reality and its image, as well as the viewer’s perception in the space. Her earlier works question the subject matter of the painting by means of various structures which hide or partly dissolve it, and by that they allow for and even demand different associations. In the following works she focused on movement and on perspective within the painting itself as well as outside of it, which finally led to including the physical experience, the spatial perception, and the time aspect in her overall artistic concept: the painting, the space, and the viewer form a whole, and they relate to each other in a flexible way.
