This project will examine the visual arts and aesthetic development across the Caribbean, considering the histories of the Spanish, French, Dutch and English islands and their Diasporas. An international advisory group of scholars and artists are working with us to plan and present scholarly discussions, public programming, events, educational components, the multi-venue exhibition and a major resource publication. Highlighting rarely-seen works in thematic sections ranging from the Haitian Revolution to the present, the exhibition is both ambitious and groundbreaking. Symposia have been convened in New York, Trinidad, and Martinique/Guadeloupe; we are in the planning stages for forthcoming events in Curaçao and Aruba. The development of this ambitious initiative has been supported by the Reed Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
