Many of the works will be site-specific, having been made expressly for the exhibition, or are being shown for the first time. The title of the show is meant as a playful nod to the large-scale international events which continue to multiply: there are, in point of fact, numerous biennials and triennials occurring from year to year. “The 2011 Bridgehampton Biennial” is intended as a one-time exhibition — as Nickas remarks, “just for the fun of it” — and it follows a show that he organized with Martos Gallery last summer, quoting Jack Smith, “Wait For Me at the Bottom of the Pool.”
