The work of Olaf Breuning draws on the visual codes of mass culture. As part of his recent research on the artist’s relation to the history of modern and contemporary art, The Art Freaks consists of banners hanging from the ceiling. On each of these standards is printed a photograph showing us a character whose body is painted in the manner of an iconic artist (Francis Bacon, Louise Bourgeois, Damien Hirst, On Kawara, Yves Klein, Jackson Pollock, Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Warhol…).
