Anindita Dutta’s rich and varied practice consists of performance, video large-scale installation, and contemporary sculpture. Dutta works with organic materials and forms, melding the human shape with natural substances like mud, clay and twine. Her practice reflects the fundamental connection between humans and the earth; she makes use of various forms of hardened earth by literally constructing objects from the earth’s most basic
form of existence as a material substance. Her employment of bodily movement as an artistic tool reflects on both the human body’s impermanence and its eternal connection to land.
Robert Bills Contemporary is proud to present Wrest in Peace, a solo exhibition of Dutta’s recent sculptural work, performance documentation, and video installation. For this exhibition Dutta has produced a number of large-scale, figural sculptures that incorporate her past use of clay and mud in performance, now in permanent form.
