François Morellet’s relationship with the work of Kazimir Malévitch, while thoroughly ambiguous, is nevertheless squarely explicit at the same time. One immediately thinks of F.M.’s two large ‘intégrations’ [site-specific installations] in public spaces, Le Fantôme de Malévitch, on the façade of the Musée des Beaux-arts in Chambéry, from 1982, and Le Naufrage de Malévitch, by the edge of the lake at the Domaine de Kerguéhennec, from 1987.
