Aesthete, musician, and creative director Pharrell Williams has said “the keyboard is my journal.”

The renaissance man and Daniel Arsham have combined worlds in a project that explores the “petrifaction of contemporary objects.” The first images of their #arshamxpharrell collaboration flooded Instagram last Wednesday.

The Miami-based artist created volcanic ash, steel, and crystal replicas of Pharrell’s original Casio MT-500 keyboard. These casts are detailed with signs of use, appearing like relics “detected in a distant future or on an archeological dig.”

The full collaboration will be revealed tonight at The Standard Hotel in the East Village. “Visitors will be given white gloves and an opportunity to touch the works,” Arsham said.

You can catch Arsham at Hong Kong’s Galerie Perrotin, London’s Pippy Houldsworth Gallery and Louis Vuitton’s Espace in Singapore this fall.
