Mexico-based cultural center EDELO (En Donde Era La ONU) or “Where the United Nations Used to Be” got its start in 2008 when hundreds of displaced indigenous people occupied Mexico City’s United Nations building. To everyone’s surprise, the UN moved out, and the occupiers began using the building as a space for artists and activists to collaborate with the community.
Caleb Duarte, who co-founded EDELO with artist Mia Eva Rollow, will present at the Creative Time Summit this Friday afternoon. Duarte’s work interrogates issues of migration and social mobility. He has exhibited in Mexico, Italy, and the United States.
