1. BAM BAM!
BAM Fisher Building, September 6, 6:30 p.m.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is simply an incredible haven in NYC. This young patrons party celebrates BAM’s new performance building dedicated to experimental work. The party is hosted by José Parlá, one of our favorite artists, and Boardwalk Empire’s Vincent Piazza. Our friends Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein, of the Timo Weiland fashion label, will be spinning.
2. Thursdays in Chelsea
Chelsea, September 6, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
This Thursday in Chelsea may be the best place to escape Fashion’s Night Out craziness. Check out openings at Honey Space, Casey Kaplan, Zach Feuer, PPOW, Pace Gallery, Galerie Lelong, and Paul Kasmin.
3. Last Chance Dance
MoMA PS1 and SculptureCenter, September 8, all day
Long Island City is the new Williamsburg, or so they have been saying for three years… We promise you Saturday is the day to hit LIC. Check out the final summer Warm Up at MoMA PS1, then head over to nearby gem SculptureCenter, which is hosting a mega block party with artist-led activity tents, live music, an affordable art market, and a food court with grub from local restaurants.
4. Brooklyn Idol Debuts
Studios throughout Brooklyn, September 8-9
Artists across Brooklyn open their studio doors and invite you in for a peek at their creative worlds. Cast your vote for “Brooklyn Idol,” and the most popular artists will be exhibited on Fox… I mean the Brooklyn Museum.
5. Restaurant Outbreak in Williamsburg.
Williamsburg Waterfront, September 9
Yes, you have probably made it to the Brooklyn Flea or Smorgasburg on the Williamsburg Waterfront this summer, but what about a taste of neighborhood’s best up and coming restaurants? This year’s TASTE Williamsburg Greenpoint is sure to please (use code taste15 for 15%off). It may just hit the spot, particularly if you attended Riot Fest the night before!
6. Fashion’s Night Out
Manhattan, September 6, 7:00 – 10:00 p.m.
The annual worldwide Fashion’s Night Out will have artists, fashionistas, designers, models, celebrities, and everyone in between flood the streets for in-store promotions and celebrations across NYC. There’s even an outdoor carnival at the Alexander Berardi store in SoHo that features Damien Hirst-style t-shirt spin art from artists at RH Gallery.
7. The Heart of Art and Fashion
The LES, September 5, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
The LES is not our favorite place on Friday and Saturday nights, but for the rest of the week it’s the king of emerging art and fashion in NYC. The LES Business Improvement District is celebrating Art + Fashion with an opening of 80+ art galleries and countless in-store events at fashion boutiques. The LES magic continues on Sunday nights when many of the galleries, including James Fuentes, On Stellar Rays, Nicelle Beauchene, and Lisa Cooley have their fall openings
8. Vodka, Fish, and Art
NY Aquarium at Brighton Beach, September 8
ArtOnBrighton is a salute to the post-Soviet immigrants and artists of Brighton Beach. For $10, you get a trip to an aquarium where you can enjoy live music, art, and comedy all day with an open bar, food, and a DJ dance party. This is even better than the Finding Nemo 3D re-release!
