Art in NYC: ARTLOG Art Crawl, a Gagosian August, and the Worst Movie of All Time
Cameron Meade, Manish Vora

1. Lower East Side Art Crawl
Check-in at Allegra LaViola Gallery, August 2
ARTLOG is hosting a tour of notable galleries on the Lower East Side. The final stop? An after-party with Appleton Estate Rum Cocktails at PKNY.

2. Gagosian Is Not Taking August Off
Gagosian Gallery (Madison Ave), through Aug 24
Gagosian is one of the few uptown galleries not taking an August hiatus. Take your pick of major works from the likes of Rothko, Warhol, and Serra, a large installation of bronze swimming fish by Bruce Nauman, or four important 1960s paintings by Robert Ryman.

3. A Dance Party at the Brooklyn Museum
Brooklyn Museum, August 4
Catch electronic and underground pan-Caribbean music and performances (not your traditional Caribbean Rhythms) while enjoying the Brooklyn Museum’s art, all for free.

4. Take a walk on the High Line with John Cage
High Line West 14th Street Passage, August 2
Bask in the avant-garde musical genius of the late John Cage with a 94-minute film and sound composition as you explore the ever-changing High Line park.

5. Accordion Wrestling
Damrosch Park Bandshell, August 3 and 4, 8:30 p.m.
Take in the combination of two of our favorite pastimes, accordion playing and wrestling, at Lincoln Center’s free, three-week Out of Doors festival.

6. The Citizen Kane of Bad Movies
Sunshine Cinemas, August 4, 12:00 a.m.
Watch awesomely terrible cult-classic The Room in the company of friends and notorious writer, director, and producer Tommy Wiseau.

7. The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival
St. Francis College Theater, August 4
Speaking of awesomely terrible… besides the awkward name and horrific website, we expect good things from Brooklyn filmmakers at AoBFF, a festival dedicated to Brooklyn-centric films and filmmakers. If only there was a web designer and someone with marketing skills in Brooklyn to help with the rest…

8. Factory of Dreams Launch Party
Aperture Gallery, August 2, 7:00-10:00 p.m.
A lineup of DJs and a tequila tasting accompany this exhibition of Stefan Ruiz’s photographs about the compelling and passionate world of telenovelas.

9. Mad Decent Block Party
Williamsburg Park, August 5
With some noteworthy electronic DJs on board, an affordable price tag (it’s free!), and a mad decent name, this is bound to be an awesome dance party.

10. Zip-Line Through Union Square
Along Park Avenue, August 4
Car-free streets from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, a zip-line through Union Square, and plenty of fun activities throughout: Summer Streets turns NYC into an urban playground.
