2. Gagosian Is Not Taking August Off

Gagosian is one of the few uptown galleries not taking an August hiatus. Take your pick of major works from the likes of Rothko, Warhol, and Serra, a large installation of bronze swimming fish by Bruce Nauman, or four important 1960s paintings by Robert Ryman.

4. Take a walk on the High Line with John Cage

Bask in the avant-garde musical genius of the late John Cage with a 94-minute film and sound composition as you explore the ever-changing High Line park.

5. Accordion Wrestling

Take in the combination of two of our favorite pastimes, accordion playing and wrestling, at Lincoln Center’s free, three-week Out of Doors festival.

7. The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival

Speaking of awesomely terrible… besides the awkward name and horrific website, we expect good things from Brooklyn filmmakers at AoBFF, a festival dedicated to Brooklyn-centric films and filmmakers. If only there was a web designer and someone with marketing skills in Brooklyn to help with the rest…

8. Factory of Dreams Launch Party
Aperture Gallery, August 2, 7:00-10:00 p.m.
A lineup of DJs and a tequila tasting accompany this exhibition of Stefan Ruiz’s photographs about the compelling and passionate world of telenovelas.

9. Mad Decent Block Party
