There’s always a messy explosion to clean up after something’s left in the microwave for too long. But one blogger, whose recent snack of choice was microwave-zapped marshmellows, had an epiphany whilst browsing Tumblr accounts and noshing on a fresh plate of warm, pillowy treats. The result: Microwhat, a Tumblr of before and after shots of microwaved things that have been turned into psychedelic animated GIFs.

The site’s author, who prefers to remain anonymous, has completed more than sixty-four Microwhats of namely food (gummy bears, SPAM, gum-balls, candy hearts, M&Ms), though other objects (lipstick, a stick of Old Spice, toothpaste, glow sticks, markers, a Polaroid of a microwave) make for some of the most compelling outcomes. More ambitious specimens are slated to take place as soon as the author gets a new microwave. In the meantime, suggestions for future Microwhats can be submitted here.
