Swede Anders Ramsell takes on a massive task in his Blade Runner Aquarelle Edition. The “very beginning,” a thirteen-minute section of what will be a much longer work, is composed of 3,285 watercolors, recreating the visuals of the 1982 classic while retaining its audio track. The effect is somewhat jarring, focusing more on the ambiance of the film than its Hollywood-smooth flow. It is, however, an interesting watch. The odd combination of futuristic subject and what appears to be an early-twentieth-century style of representation makes the rehash worthwhile. With over 300,000 views on YouTube, Ramsell’s impressionistic rendering of Blade Runner is evidently catching fire.
