The resounding theme of the Marianne Boesky Gallery’s latest exhibition is an investigation of the gradual, natural deterioration of material. In the vein of Edvard Munch’s mildew-stained, hole- and crack-covered works, the showcase, titled The Nature of Disappearance, explores artworks that embrace the theme of decay in any which way. Opening on the one hundredth anniversary of the death of Swedish artist August Strindberg (who also had a penchant for festering objects), the exhibit will be on view concurrently at both Marianne Boesky locations, where curator and Munch expert Dr. Dieter Buchhart presents some pretty disturbing stuff.
The Nature of Disappearance opens June 28 and will be on view through August 10.
