Martos Gallery’s project space, Shoot the Lobster, has the cure for your unimaginative summer group show blues. After recording a cover of the B-52’s Rock Lobster on Halloween last year, collaborators Merkx and Gwyenne have set out to make a music video to accompany it and they’ve invited all of their artist friends to help. They filmed a two-minute introduction to the video in April, and they solicited their friends to bring props to create an environment of “artist-made nautical crap from 1984.” The nautical-themed group show will serve as a backdrop for the remainder of the video. For their opening party this Saturday, they will enforce a strict dress code—
Formal dress is required for the opening occasion—please wear general beach comber styles, bathing suits (one piece and two), flip flops, bucket hats, swim caps, snorkels, and general 1980s beach-, maritime-, marine biology- and lobster shack-themed notions may apply (tux and tails are okay too, but please wear evening gloves).
