Ron Mueck’s sculptures are undeniably a little unsettling. He crafts fiberglass and silicone figures that could easily pass for human, if it weren’t for a bizarre twist: some pieces tower over viewers, some are miniature in scale, and some are just free-floating heads.
Prior to his thriving art career, Mueck started out as a puppeteer, notably for the film Labyrinth and several of Jim Henson’s television shows. Since devoting himself full-time to art, he has had solo shows at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D. C. and the Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin.
