BAM is a great place to catch a movie or see some live theater, and now with their new public art initiative, there will be plenty to entertain outdoors as well. BAM reviewed over one hundred international proposals and ultimately decided on four projects from local artists in Brooklyn.
Timothy Hull’s Accelerated Ruin will grace the lot next to the Harvey Theater. Made from biodegradable material, the three pyramid-like structures will degrade over time to reveal the structure’s inner framework, evoking themes of impermanence and memory. Showpaper, the free, all-ages music guide, collaborated with four artists to design unique news boxes, a staple of New York street corners. However, the boxes will be filled with a series of rotating independent publications rather than copies of the Village Voice and The Onion.
A reception for BAMart: Public will be held at BAM on June 19.
