Filmmaker Van Neistat has worked with artist Tom Sachs for over a decade, in the process producing viral YouTube videos and an HBO series, The Neistat Brothers, with his brother Casey. We sat down with Van for an impromptu interview about his most recent collaboration with Sachs, Space Program: Mars, a full-on Mars mission mounted in the Park Avenue Armory, accompanied by an instructional video about How to Sweep (both practical and insane), a Love Letter to Plywood, an introduction to the Tom Sachs version of Space Camp, and an overview of the colors (like “McDonalds yellow”) used in Sachs’ studio.
