Prometheus is a Terrible Movie but a Fantastic Myth
Manish Vora

The hit 3D blockbuster movie Prometheus has the makings of an incredible movie, with state-of-the-art special effects coupled with 3D technology and direction by Ridley Scott, the creator of Alien and Blade Runner. I am not in the business of movie reviews, and for good reason, but I am confounded by the 74% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for a script potentially written by middle schoolers. The best part of the movie was relearning the story of Prometheus and finding classical artwork about the subject. So if you are amongst the 26% of the population who hated this movie, spend time with the wonderful history and art history of Prometheus!

The story of Prometheus from Greek mythology is one of a cunning hero responsible for the birth of mankind. The first man was created from clay, but survival of man was threatened when the mighty Zeus stole fire from humans. Prometheus the rescuer of mankind used his startling wit to steal back fire and return it to man. Zeus made him pay as he was sentenced to eternal torment where he was chained to a rock, where the eagle of Zeus would to feed on his liver, only to have it grow back each day due to the immortality of Prometheus. According to the legend, this occurred until Hercules rescued him.

Why f*&$k with a thousand year old story?
