Thurston Moore, Jonas Mekas, David Shrigley, and More Artist-Musicians at Agnès B.
Jarrett Moran

Designer Agnès B. is a patron of the arts with a focus on the more scrappy and multidisciplinary side of the spectrum, as evidenced by her longtime support of street art and her collaborations with Harmony Korine. The latest group show at her SoHo gallery/boutique continues in that tradition, drawing together twenty artists who refuse to choose between making music and visual work. Many of the participants are widely regarded as stars of one discipline or the other: Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, avant-garde filmmaker Jonas Mekas, legendary recluse Daniel Johnston, Alan Vega of Suicide, and popular British artist David Shrigley. There are also members of a subsequent generation of acclaimed bands: Brian DeGraw of Gang Gang Dance, Hisham Bharoocha of Lightning Bolt and Black Dice, and Liz Wendelbo of Xeno & Oaklander. An accompanying music compilation is available for download on the boutique’s website.

Musique Plastique is open June 14 – August 25 at Agnes B. Galerie, 50 Howard Street. Opening reception: June 14, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
