Kenny Scharf’s newest show, Hodgepodge at Honor Fraser Gallery in Los Angeles, incorporates everything from a fluorescent Cosmic Cavern installation to The New and Improved Ultima Suprema Deluxa, a modified Cadillac covered in paintings. Some works, such as Blobarino, depict gelatinous blobs with distorted faces, a continuation from the cartoon characters like the Jetsons and the Flintstones that have appeared in his past work.
Scharf rose to prominence in the 1980s alongside artists such as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and his outdoor murals and immersive party spaces draw inspiration from graffiti, Surrealism, and Pop Art (he sometimes refers to his style as “Pop Surrealism”). Scharf currently lives and works between Los Angeles, New York City, and Brazil.
Hodgepodge will be on view from April 14th to May 19th at Honor Fraser Gallery in Los Angeles.
