In the past, Edward Winkleman has hesitated to show video at art fairs due to the challenges of shipping equipment and the uncertain viewing conditions once it arrives. During Armory Week, Winkleman is organizing a new fair, Moving Image, which readjusts the art fair model to better serve artists and galleries presenting video.
Winkleman’s gallery hosts one of Chelsea’s more challenging and experimental programs; last summer he turned over his 27th street space to workshops and discussions hosted by Jennifer Dalton and William Powhida, titled #Class. At the Miami fairs last year, Winkleman joined experimental fair Seven with Dalton and Powhida’s #Rank, a freewheeling critique of the art fairs. Winkleman stopped by Artlog’s office to explain how Moving Image addresses the challenges of showing (and selling) video at an art fair.
